CONNECTION AND UPLOAD

Once your site is completed, you will need to set up your FTP (File Transfer Protocol) in Dreamweaver, or you can use an FTP program like Fetch (on Macintosh) or Cute (on PC).

There are a number of freeware FTP programs to download from on the internet. Try www.PCWorld.com;or www.freeware-guide.com which has over 130 links to websites that offer ‘freeware’.

Before you attempt to upload your website, you will need some information from your Internet Service Provider and you will need to purchase a domain name so that you have an internet address.

Once you have all the informatioin to hand, go into Dreamweaver SITE > EDIT SITES and you will see a dialogue box offering a number of options. Select the edit button on the right. You will then be taken to the ‘Site Definition dialog box.

Then under the Category heading (top left) highlight Remote info.

From the next dialogue box, go to the Access pull down button and select FTP.

Now fill in the FTP Host; Host Directory; Login and Password boxes from the information you share with your ISP. These are secure settings.

Now you can drag your files from the local to the remote server - or from the right window pane in Dreamweaver, to the left window pane.

When updating, you can use the two arrows at the top of your window, remember you PUT files from the local to the remote server and you GET files from the remote to the local server.
