IS KING - PICTURES
AND GRAPHICS
Good pictures can tell a story without words and play a vital role on
your website. They can tell people a story, give people a glimpse of
another country or a taste of a different culture. They can also shock
people, amaze people or make people feel happy.
So,
having decided on the real message you want to convey through your website,
you need to collect together some good pictures and use them to best
effect.
If possible, take your pictures on a digital camera because you can
immediately see if the picture tells the story you want it to tell.
This picture was taken on a hot dusty day in Jordan on the road to the
Dead Sea.
Digital cameras mean you don't need film anymore and there's no expensive
chemical processing. The pictures are available instantly wherever you
are and can be edited, printed or emailed from one computer to another
anywhere in the world in minutes.
All this means pictures are produced at less cost and can also easily be
sent long distances via telephone lines. They are also in digital
format so can immediately be edited in our graphics software.
Do not store your original pictures in your website folder - set up
a new folder on your hard drive and call it webwork. Save any original
photographs which you plan to use in this folder.
Once you have edited and optimised them in Fireworks (See step 14) you
will save them into your website folder. It is wise to keep all your
originals in the webwork folder in case you want to change the size
or use a picture a second time or in a different way
You can also download pictures from the Internet but remember they may
be subject to copyright.
