NAVIGATION AND LINKS

Linking text:
The key to successfully guiding visitors around the pages of your website is good navigation and effective page links. Your Navigation area(s) should have a key position(s) on the page and your links must be clear and easy to follow.

You can colour your links, visited links and active links through Modify > Page Properties.

Link colour refers to hypertext links. A link is a hypertext link in it's native state. Visited links are links which the visitor has used already and active links are those which relate to a page which is presently open.

There are default colours in place - link colour in a strong blue for example - but these will seldom suit your design scheme so you will need to change them. The links will also be underlined by default which is how most visitors will expect to recognise them so they are best left that way. (Step 8 - Hello Dreamweaver)

In your Navigation bar, highlight the link word and click into the Properties Inspector Link box. Select the small folder icon to the right of the Link box and browse for the link page in your pages folder inside the Root folder. Check that the URL is relative to the Document ... not to the Site Root ... in the accompanying Dialogue box > OK.

Once you have completed your main links, you will see the folders and files which make up your website on the right of your screen under Files and you can open your pages from here with a double click to work on them.

You can also now see your site map. Go to Site > Site Map - and this should replicate your original hand drawn plan! (See Step 4 - Plan on paper)

Linking pictures:
You can also link pictures to another link page. Select the picture (you will see a dark frame round the picture with handles on two sides) and click into the Properties Inspector Link box under the picture.

Select the small folder icon to the right of the Link box and browse for the link page in your pages folder inside the Root folder. Check that the URL is relative to the Document ... not to the Site Root ... in the accompanying Dialogue box > OK.
