NOW
LET'S LOOK AT PALETTES AND TOOL BARS
The
palettes and tool bars can be opened and closed under the Window menu
item so to find out more about each item, let’s go to View >
Hide Panels which clears your screen of everything except the page you
want to work on.
Now we can open the items individually and choose what we want to work
with.
Go to Window > Properties and your Properties Inspector will open
underneath your page.
The Properties Inspector:
Always have your Properties Inspector open under your working page.
You will use this box all the time. The properties in it change according
to what you are working on.
If you are working in text it allows you to change font, size, colour.
If you are working with a graphic - it allows you to change the size,
position, add space around it etc.
If you are working on a table you can manipulate and change table cells
- add more cells, spacing, colour. We will look at it in detail as we
go through this Guide and you will find it is a great aid to your planning
and building of the website.
Insert palette:
Now we’ll look at Window > Insert. This brings up an Insert
Panel at the top of your screen which allows you to insert many objects.
For example you can insert or add hyperlinks, email links, tables, pictures,
navigation bars and many other things.
This will be very useful to you at a later stage and you are certain
to return to it, but we will learn the basics by using the menu and
Properties Inspector. So close the Insert Panel by clicking on the small
grey button top left and clear it from your screen.
Eyes right:
To the right of your page there are a number of palettes named Design,
Code, Application, Files and Answers which we should keep available
for use on your screen.
Answers is very useful as it takes you to a bigger palette where you
can access tutorials and resources to help answer the many questions
you will come up with as you progress with the software. Files will
eventually show all your pages and pictures and allow you quick access
to them. It also shows various site assets including your library which
we will discuss later in this section.
Eyes down:
At the bottom left corner of your page, there is a selection of ‘tags’
reading something like this: <body> <table> <tr> <td>
<table> <tr> <td> <p> <font> As part of
the HTML language, they describe how an element of a web page should
look or behave in the browser window and they can be edited.
