WHAT
DO DIFFERENT COLOURS CONVEY ...
Here
are some abbreviated views from well-known International colour therapists:
Red, the first colour
of the spectrum, stimulates, motivates and activates and is associated
with warmth and excitement but by some it is seen as the ‘danger’
colour developing feelings of anger and fiery rage.
Orange is a healer; it
promotes a stronger heartbeat and helps the liver, treats bronchitis
and arthritis - but it it not the colour for people who are easily irritated
or suffer from stress.
Yellow is the lightest
of all the warm-spectrum colours and most resembles the sun. It brings
feelings of hope, cheerfulness, gaiety and radiance. But it’s
diminishing aspect can lead to an extreme negativity associated with
mental depression.
Green reflects sharing,
adaptability, generosity and co-operation. It soothes emotions and invites
understanding and good judgement. But its negative expressions include
poor judgement, suspicion and overcautiousness.
Turquoise has a constant
vibrancy which neither overpowers nor intrudes. This sparkling, articulate
colour has an attentive and open-minded quality which emanates well-being
- but turquoise can sometimes be plagued with immaturity and with feelings
of emptiness and a lack of clarity.
Blue, a popular colour
and part of the cool-spectrum, promotes stillness, faith, devotion,
trust, duty and beauty but the blue nature searches and seeks continually
often showing doubt and disbelief.
Violet reflects dignity,
nobility and self-respect. Artistry, tolerance and consideration are
associated with this colour but on the negative side, so are forgetfulness
and lack of endurance.
Magenta is a refined and
subtle colour expressing dedication, reverence, gratitude and commitment
as it strives to express pure idealism. It’s gentle, warm and
nurturing but it can create feelings of superiority - snobbishness,
arrogance and ultimately, isolation.
So, some deep thinking is needed about the use of colour on your website;
consider the pluses and the minuses.
