TEXT
ON YOUR WEBSITE
Text
formatting in Dreamweaver involves using the keyboard and Properties
Inspector palette which, when working with text, shows only information
associated with text.
Text can be typed directly into a Dreamweaver document window or table
cell or it can be pasted in from another source. Text pasted in from
another program must be carefully checked because some punctuation symbols
will not be read correctly and need to be over-typed. File > Preview
in browser before uploading.
After importing text from another program always clean up your HTML
by selecting Commands > Clean Up HTML - this removes redundant tags.
Paragraphs and line breaks:
Adding paragraphs and line breaks is achieved using the keyboard exclusively.
To put in paragraphs use the Carriage Return key. Browsers don't recognise
Carriage Return so pressing this key in Dreamweaver automatically inserts
the <p> tag (paragraph). This adds a line space between each block
of text.
To remove or avoid the line of space do a soft return by holding down
the Shift key and pressing Carriage Return.
Changing size and enriching text:
Text can be enriched by using bold and italics
accessible from the Properties Inspector when text is selected (highlighted).
The size of text can be modified by choosing Size from the Properties
Inspector. Size in HTML refers to a nominal value and not an absolute
unit like points as used in design for paper.
If your text is size ‘2’ it will look bigger on a PC screen
than on a Mac screen because of the difference in the screen technologies.
