EDITING THE PICTURE

Now we will crop some unwanted material from the picture.

Select the Marquee Tool (3rd icon down in the toolbar on the left) and select the area of picture you want to keep by dragging from bottom of the picture diagonally upwards until the area is identified.
Edit > Crop Document.

The next steps will adjust the colour levels and the sharpness of the picture.
Click on the picture with the Black Arrow from the tool bar and make sure you can see a pale blue frame around the picture.
Go to Filter > Adjust Colour > Levels.

The picture has now been cropped, lightened and sharpened.

The Dialogue box shows a black contour with three arrows underneath. Bring the right arrow to the right edge of the contour and the left arrow to the left edge of the contour and then the middle arrow should be moved to the left until the picture (seen in the background) shows a good clarity of darkness and light >OK.

Remember, all pictures tend to go slightly darker when they are loaded onto the Internet so make sure the picture is slightly lighter than seems normal.

Now we can adjust the final size for the picture. Modify > Canvas > Image size and change pixel width to 210.

The picture now needs to be sharpened.
Go to Filter > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask (for a gentle sharpen).
In the Dialogue box which appears make the following settings:
Sharpen Amount - 50; Pixel Radius - 4; Threshold - 1 >OK.

The next step is to optimise the file size of the picture.
