BUSINESS TOURISM LIFESTYLE REBUILD GOVERNMENT HOME
Who's who in Government

The Government of Sierra Leone is run by the elected President, Dr Ahmad Tejan Kabbah assisted by the Vice President, Solomon Berewa. Elected Members of the Parliament hold sessions at the Parliament Building (pictured) in Oau Drive, Tower Hill, Freetown.

Ministers report to the Parliament for deliberation on their recommendations.

Under the terms of the 1991 Constitution all executive power lies with the President who is elected by democratic vote. He appoints the Cabinet subject to approval by the legislature. Legislative power is vested in the 80-Member Parliament which is itself, elected for a five year term.
A memorial statue of Sir Milton Margai, the First elected Prime Minister after Independence in 1961, has been erected next to the Parliament building.
