Plight of a Young Commonwealth Citizen As Cameroon celebrates it's sixth anniversary in the Commonwealth of Nations during the Millennium Commonwealth day on 12 March 2001, it's time to give its citizens belief in a new vision. In the Northern part of the country, this vision could be developed by setting up a branch of the British Council to encourage use and learning of the English language which would go a long way to making these isolated Cameroonians feel the Commonwealth strength. With the English language also spoken by neighbouring Nigerians young people would stand to benefit from the reality of the Commonwealth by adopting new behavioral patterns, revolutionary thinking, new ideas, new information and telecommunication technologies, new approaches to human relations and new relationships between people and institutions. When the Commonwealth principles finally penetrate the hinterlands of the whole country, a new generation of Commonwealth citizens will emerge characterised by enterprise, dynamism, adaptability, tolerance, creativity and proactive thinking. These achievements can only come under the umbrella of government that embraces the democratic forces of Commonwealth countries which is also good for Cameroon.
