Fanfare at Commonwealth Day Closing Celebration

By MERCY FON
Week long activities, organised to mark the Commonwealth Day celebration in Cameroon, ended on Monday, March 12 at the Yaounde City Hall. The crowd pulling closing ceremony with a wide range of entertainment kept crowds spell bound.

After the reading of the Queen's speech by Anne Nsang, support speeches followed, notably, by the Minister Delegate in charge of the Commonwealth, Dr. Dion Ngute; the Minister of External Relations, Prof. Kontchou Kouomegni, and the Deputy Government Delegate to the Yaounde Urban Council, Hon. Amougou Nicholas.

They all dwelt on the active part Cameroon was taking in the 'Gentleman's Club' as concerns the new generation of the global village.

The main attraction was the active participation of rehabilitated street children who vowed to be leaders of tomorrow. Prizes were awarded to youths who had distinguished themselves in sporting and academic competitions throughout the week.

Another eye-catching event, which drew a lot of applause from the crowd, was the colourful traditional dance performed by children of the PNEU Kindergarten. They were so innocent and committed in their dancing that they did not notice the tears of joy rolling down some cheeks.
