Terminal 5, Heathrow
Working on one of the largest construction sites in Europe, Elliott Thomas is providing a full logistics package to principal contractor Balfour Beatty for work on the Track Transit System (TTS) at the new terminal. The work involves:

• Waste Management – provision of operatives to coordinate and manage the safe cleaning and removal of trade debris, off-cuts and hazardous materials to dedicated
areas.
• Materials Handling and Distribution – distribution of materials from off load areas to work areas via hoists and fork lifts
• Fire Safety – provision of fire marshals to co-ordinate fire points, signage and emergency procedures/drills
• Welfare Management – management and co-ordination of operating a safe and clean environment in welfare area.

Heathrow Consolidation Centre (HCC)
The Heathrow Consolidation Centre, (HCC) located at Hatton Cross, provides a delivery point for incoming deliveries bound for Heathrow construction projects. From there the material can be broken down into smaller parts or workpacks and delivered by the dedicated HCC Wilson James delivery teams to one of several projects

The HCC is NOT a warehouse, and dwell times of the materials held seldom go beyond two weeks. This helps contractors manage their material flow, both from supplier to airport and from the HCC to site. It also ensures that the site does not become clogged with too much material, which is especially important considering the restricted space encountered at the airport.

Further benefits include the reduced vehicle movements due to the consolidation of deliveries from multiple suppliers resulting in helping to meet BAA Environmental targets. Security issues are reduced as the Wilson James team and their vehicles are passed to the correct level to gain access to airside areas. As the first of its kind in the UK, the HCC was the subject of a year-long DTI study.
